The national legacy begins

The National Congress of Black Women, Inc. (NCBW) is an historic and valued Nonprofit Organization, founded by Dr. C. DeLores Tucker in August 1984. With Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm as its first elected National Chair in June 1985, and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, a nonpartisan voice of advocacy for Black Women was structured. Their vision was to provide Black Women with the tools needed for success in life, focusing on political skills development, organizing, networking, and impacting public policy.

Programs for future leaders

NCBW’s programs benefit thousands of people annually, collaborating with groups from various backgrounds. We are passionate about youth educational opportunities, offering college-based learning programs, educational scholarships, youth mentoring, and leadership development. Programs like College for Kids, College for Teens, Leadership Training, and The Young Ambassadors provide access to technology and resources to compete in the workforce, reflecting the fierce advocacy and commitment of our trailblazers.

Our Birmingham Metro Chapter

The Birmingham Metro Chapter was chartered in 2012, carrying forward the national mission with local impact. We are special and unique in our dedication to serving as a nonpartisan voice for Black women and their families in Birmingham, Alabama, and the greater Birmingham metro area. Our work creates real positive change by helping all people, with an emphasis on Black women and their families, to improve their educational, economic, social, and political status.

"Inspired to join or donate, you become part of a movement that empowers Black women and strengthens communities."
